Sports fans love to debate the win, the loss, the big play, and the play that got away. Fans of the National Football League’s New England Patriots have a great, free community site in patriotsdaily.com where they can read all the latest news and commentary about their team, play armchair quarterback, and offer their thoughts on players, plays, coaching, and strategy.

Bruce Allen, founder of patriotsdaily.com, says they work hard to provide in-depth insight and commentary for Patriots fans.

“We preview upcoming opponents and we examine the keys to the upcoming game,” says Bruce. “We hand out grades on the previous game, and we like to have some fun by publishing a tailgating post for most home games and select away games. We usually have one or two opinion or current topic columns in the mix as well.”

Run purely by volunteer power, the site publishes daily during the Patriots’ season, and works hard to keep Patriot talk going in the off-season with near-daily posts and commentary. Jeremy Gottlieb does the popular Patriot report card after every game.

Jeremy Gottlieb pulls no punches and tells it like it is when it comes to the state of the team and what they did and didn’t do this week,” says Bruce. “People love to second-guess the players and coach and see them get criticized when they come up short.”

With dozens of WordPress sites under his belt, Bruce is a self-confessed Automattic evangelist. Interested in protecting all the content at patriotsdaily.com, he was an early VaultPress adopter.

“I started using WordPress in May of 2005,” says Bruce. “I’ve probably started about 30 WordPress blogs since then. I’m something of an Automattic evangelist, encouraging people to use WordPress, WordPress.com, VaultPress, Akismet, Intense Debate, Gravatar, and After The Deadline to make their blogging experience easy and fun. I think I first heard about VaultPress on Twitter, and eagerly waited for it to open up to beta testers. I got my Golden Ticket in July of 2010.”

Of all the great content on patriotsdaily.com, Bruce says he loves the “buffet table” feature the best.

“Our mystery “chef” lays out a complete menu for game day, usually with food themed from the opposition city. He gives you precise directions on cooking the food, along with a comprehensive beer selection to accompany the meal, again, based around a specific theme, or genre of beer,” says Bruce. “His encyclopedic knowledge of domestic and foreign beer is mind-roasting. As the administrator, I love that the writers can compose their posts in WordPress, and save them for me to edit and post according to schedule. It sure beats having to email documents back and forth and make revisions that way.”
