Announcing: Multisite Support

And now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for: we’re proud to announce a new version of the VaultPress plugin featuring Multisite support. Now you can manage site backups for every site in your WordPress network right from your VaultPress dashboard.

Using VaultPress with your network’s main site will backup your network’s users table, plugins, and themes. For non-main sites, VaultPress will not backup users, plugins, or themes.

VaultPress peace of mind is now available for every site in your WordPress network.

Imagine: protection from the bad guys and from mistakes you might make when you haven’t had your coffee yet—for less than half the price of that coffee, each day. We can restore that image, that theme, that post, and that obscure plugin setting, allowing you to focus on publishing great content. With Multisite support, we can extend that peace of mind to every site in your WordPress network, with real-time backups. If you need help, the VaultPress Safekeepers are standing by to assist you.

Access any site from your VaultPress dashboard.

Each site within your Multisite network will require its own subscription, just like individual sites. If you’d like to activate VaultPress on another site in your network, you’ll need to purchase a plan.

Beta testers are the best!

But, we couldn’t have done it without you. Special thanks to everyone who beta tested the VaultPress plugin and took the time to submit bug reports and offer feedback. We appreciate it!

Feedback: keep it comin’!

What works? What could we do better? Please take the time to let us know. Contact us through our website or from within your VaultPress dashboard when you’re signed in.

This is awesome news! Doubt I can afford it right now, but it’s a long awaited milestone in your service offering none the less.

wpmututorials.com made an interesting comment on the individual licensing per sub-site.

  4. Very good to see Multisite support arrive but I’m genuinely surprised by the pricing – it seems to be a missed opportunity to use a sliding scale to gently encourage your customers to use VaultPress for more sites than they otherwise would.

I get that you don’t want Multisite to cannibalize your income from individual single site installs but I’m pretty sure that you’re missing a much bigger opportunity here.

Don’t get me wrong, VaultPress will continue to be a super-profitable success but I was hoping that you guys would recognize that the nature of most multisite networks is not quite the same and find a way to make VaultPress a no-brainer decision for them too.

      Hi donnacha,

Thanks for the comments. I wouldn’t describe this so much as a ‘missed opportunity’, as an ‘opportunity not yet taken’.

We’ve heard from many users that they want VaultPress to work with Multisite (often just one site in a Multisite install, which wasn’t possible previously), so we’ve been working hard on making that happen.

I agree with you that many companies would introduce some kind of sliding scale pricing with a product like this, and it’s something that we’ll probably look at too, but not yet: we’re focused on getting all the features built first.

donnacha is putting it very nice and polite, I find the multisite pricing “scheme” thievery! Thanks, but then again, no thanks!

    • Matt says:

Haha, the only thievery we’re doing is trying to steal your heart with the continuing functionality and protection of VaultPress. But thanks for your feedback, hopefully as we add more awesomeness to the product it’ll be something you can appreciate the value of more.

I had trouble understanding the situation here initially, but posted an explanation of how I think it works over in the comments section at WP Tavern … http://www.wptavern.com/vaultpress-now-supports-wordpress-multisite#comment-16495

Great news! Is there a way to have an account with multiple sites that are not all on one Multisite network? I think that is how VaultPress usually works, but not sure where the Multisite sites fit in. I would like to offer VaultPress as a service to my clients, most of whom prefer if I take care of all non-content-creating aspects of their sites.

Example: I have a VaultPress account with multiple single and/or Multisite sites. Pricing is per site like new Multisite pricing. Some sites are on Basic plan, some Premium plan.

I think a little more explanation on just how this works for multisite – what is backed up. If it’s just the main site – then where’s the “Multisite” aspect?

Does it back up the creation of the sites and users on the network – but not the content on the sites? I know I haven’t worded that right – but as I’m quite confused it’s hard to phrase the question.

What parts of multisite are backed up?

    • Krista says:

Multisite is beneficial of designers, developers, and content creators who run more than one WordPress site. With Multisite, they can manage all their VaultPress installations from one dashboard, as opposed to logging in to a separate dashboard for each WordPress site. VaultPress backs up content, users, and even your site settings as well as customizations to themes and plugins. Should your site get hacked, or you delete a theme or post (for example) accidentally, we can help you restore it.
